More than the surface
A façade is the part of a building everyone sees, and the part most exposed to the weather. Behind the visible panels is a substructure that carries wind, snow and the panels' own weight back to the frame of the building. At every joint, corner and opening, details keep water out and heat in, and let the materials move with temperature without damage. Façade engineering is the design of all of this, so that the exterior looks the way the architect intended and keeps performing for decades.
