Kent Renewable Energy at final stage at start of test and commissioning
Construction works and tests of Kent Renewable Energy Plant are near completion. It is a project of Danish company BWSC A/S. Under the management and supervision of the Lead Designer BWSC, Ircon Ltd. engineered and designed major part of concrete works and some of secondary steel structures. The whole design is based on Eurocodes along with British national annexes. The site is situated in Discovery Park at the plot of demolished former plant. Due to construction residues and the weak soil, every part of the plant is supported on piled foundations. The whole project is developed in BIM and PDMS environment and our experience with such type of project was an advantage. Another challenge was the parallel engineering of mechanical equipment, civil & structural and engineering services during the stage of construction which is benchmark of BWSC. This lead to challenging engineering tasks, site visit for giving solutions for various issues, changes and revisions during the design process. To ensure continuity of the construction and avoid delays, fast and adequate reaction was needed. Currently the plant is in the test and commissioning phase where first steam blowing has been carried out. The plant is planned to be fully operational in third quarter of 2018. We are proud of being part of that project.
