Completion of Technical Project: Expanding Aurubis Bulgaria’s Copper Refinery

We are delighted to announce the completion of the Technical Project phase for the expansion of the Aurubis Bulgaria Copper Refinery, a project we have been working on for the past year and four months. Aurubis’ substantial investment of 235 million BGN will allow the enterprise to increase its production by 120,000 tons, reaching 340,000 tons annually.

The team at “Ircon & Partners” was nominated to design the Tankhouse expansion for all project phases and engineering disciplines, including the development of a detailed 3D BIM model encompassing technological equipment, civil works and structures, architectural systems, pipelines, air ducts, and cable trays. One of the challenges of the project was maintaining the existing technology while developing improved technological solutions.

The project has been executed by the inhouse team at ‘Ircon & Partners’ and longstanding collaborators and engineering teams. It was developed in constant coordination with the client’s engineering and production teams. We do believe that this approach resulted in achieving high-quality, efficient, and reliable solutions.

In the coming months, work will continue to finalize the Working Project and provide active support during the construction process. Construction is expected to commence in the first half of 2024, with planned commissioning in 2026.
