A Key Step in Expanding Air Liquide Bulgaria’s Industrial Capacity

The construction of the new ASU for the production of oxygen, argon, and nitrogen is entering its next phase. This modern facility is being built on the premises of the Aurubis Bulgaria AD plant in the Pirdop and Zlatitsa region. The design was developed by the international group Air Liquide Engineering & Construction, with Ircon & Partners Ltd. serving as the Lead Bulgarian Designer. The primary purpose of the new unit is to supply the necessary industrial gases for the metallurgical processes in Aurubis’ production.

The installation will extract pure gases from atmospheric air through cooling to liquefaction temperatures and subsequent distillation of its main components. The project includes filtration and compression sections, purification, cooling and distillation units, as well as a storage area for liquefied gases. The individual sections are interconnected by elevated pipe racks carrying pipelines and cable routes. The next challenging engineering and construction phase of the project will be the installation of the tall distillation columns and steel structures erection in the cryogenic zone.
